What Is a Seder Dinner?
The word Seder simply means "order" in Hebrew. It refers to the traditional Passover meal that Jewish families have shared for thousands of years — a dinner full of rich symbolism, ancient ritual, and deep meaning.
The meal follows a specific sequence of prayers, readings, songs, and symbolic foods, each pointing back to the story of the Israelites' exodus from Egypt. It's a living, breathing retelling of God's faithfulness and redemption.
Why Do Christians Celebrate the Seder?
Here's the remarkable thing — Jesus himself celebrated the Seder. The Last Supper was a Passover Seder. When Jesus took the bread and the cup and said "This is my body... this is my blood," He was speaking directly into the Passover tradition His people had observed for generations.
When we sit at a Seder table as Christians, we're not borrowing someone else's tradition — we're stepping into our own roots. We get to see, taste, and experience how the story of Passover is fulfilled in Jesus. The lamb. The unleavened bread. The cup of redemption. Every element points forward to the cross.
